January 9 – February 20, Tuesday nights at 7:00 eastern time.
Wear your slippers, bring your book and a cup of tea, and settle in to explore Soto Zen practice and the basic teachings of Buddhism as a foundation and inspiration for daily practice in a six week course.
We’ll make it easy for you to participate so long as you have a computer and an internet connection.
We will study Instructions to the Cook, by Bernie Glassman and Rick Fields. Here’s an excerpt from the back cover: “Zen is not just about what we do in the meditation hall but what we do in the home, the workplace, and the community…. Inspired by the 13th-century manual of the same title by Dogen, founder of the Japanese Soto Zen tradition…. Glassman shows how social engagement can be used as a spiritual practice to promote both personal and societal transformation.”
We will use a free platform called Zoom. I’ll send you the link once you register. All you need is a computer and an internet connection.
Each session will begin with 15 minutes of sitting in silence together.
This program is “dana-based,” which means it is by donation. We recommend a gift of $60 per person, but no one will be excluded for inability to offer something. All proceeds will go to support Bread Loaf Mountain Zen Community, and gifts are tax deductible.
