Online: “Meeting Bodhidharma”

August 18 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Bodhidharma spent three years at sea before arriving in Southern China around 475. Upon his arrival, the emperor, intrigued by this bearded, red-headed “barbarian” from the West, asked, “Who are you?” Bodhidharma’s answer, “I don’t know,” was a spiritual offering that has resonated for centuries. This timeless exchange earned him the moniker of the First Patriarch of Zen.

Students sought him out, asking questions we still ponder today: How does one enter the path of awakening, and how do I practice with my life to bring an end to suffering? Bodhidharma’s all-inclusive practices leave nothing out and continue to open doors of awakening and liberation in our daily lives.

Our study and reflection will draw on “The Zen Teaching of Bodhidharma,” translated by Red Pine.
