Sheila Canal went on her first retreat with Thich Nhat Hanh in 1991 and found a spiritual home. She has been offering meditation practice in Ashland , Oregon in Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village tradition since then. Practice has led her to form bonds of spiritual friendship throughout Oregon, Washington, California and beyond, building, leading and participating in sangha. She received the dharma names of Joyful Love of the Heart and True Spiritual Understanding from Thich Nhat Hanh when she committed to the 5 and then the 14 Mindfulness Trainings. In June 2018, she was honored in Plum Village, France by receiving Lamp Transmission, officially becoming a dharma teacher in the practice that has given her so much.
